OUR COMMUNITIES

Welcome to Raymond

Get Directions

In 1902, Jesse Knight, a prominent Latter-day Saint (Mormon) rancher, originally from Utah, named the town after his eldest son, Raymond. The area grew due to the production of sugar beets in the area and Canada’s first sugar factory was built. The majority of land for construction was donated by Knight on the condition that no liquor outlet could ever be established in the town or the land would revert to the Knight family and heirs. Raymond Knight is often considered father of the Stampede or rodeo after he hopped aboard a bucking horse in 1900 and introduced a new sport
